Children's dental health
Check-ups and preventive advice for children, written for parents and carers.

Could this treatment help you?
Children who grow up visiting the dentist calmly become adults who keep their teeth. Children’s care at Pearl Dental is built around that: gentle, unhurried visits focused on prevention — checking growth, protecting new teeth and building good habits early.
Children are seen privately, with family appointments that fit around school.
This may suit you if

From the first tooth onwards. Bringing a toddler along to a parent’s appointment is a good, pressure-free start — the visit can be as small as a ride in the chair.
Good to know

Prevention only works with what happens at home — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and keeping sugary snacks and drinks occasional matter more than anything done in the surgery. Where treatment is needed, it is explained to you as the parent first, with every option and cost.

- Prevention-first: fluoride, advice and early monitoring
- Gentle first visits, at the child’s pace
- Step 1First visitShort and friendly — a look, a count of the teeth, and confidence built.

Afterwards
Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste — a smear for under-threes, a pea-sized amount after — supervise brushing until around seven, and keep sugar to mealtimes. Those three habits do most of the work.

Questions patients usually ask.
When should my child first see a dentist?
When the first teeth appear, and no later than their first birthday. Early visits are about familiarity, not treatment.
Is children’s dental care free?
Pearl Dental is a private practice, so children’s care is charged privately — ask reception for children’s fees when you book. NHS dental care remains free for under-18s at practices that offer it.
My child is nervous — how do you handle that?
Slowly and gently. Visits go at the child’s pace, nothing is sprung on them, and confidence is treated as part of the outcome, not an obstacle to it.
