Hygienist treatment
A professional clean, a gum-health check and advice for your routine at home.

Could this treatment help you?
The hygienist’s job is the part of dentistry that prevents the rest of it: removing the plaque and hardened tartar a toothbrush cannot, polishing away surface stain, and tracking the health of your gums visit to visit.
Pearl Dental’s hygiene care is provided by two GDC-registered hygienists, Hazel Jackson and Christopher Whitaker, working alongside the practice’s dentists — anything found that needs a dentist is handed straight over.
Healthy gums are the foundation under every other treatment: implants, straightening and cosmetic work all start with, and depend on, a mouth the hygienist would sign off.
This may suit you if

Everyone with their own teeth — and especially anyone whose gums bleed on brushing, who smokes, who is diabetic, or who is planning implants or straightening, where gum health decides the result.
Good to know

A hygiene visit removes deposits and surface stain; it does not whiten teeth or treat established gum disease in one sitting. Where deeper treatment is needed, a periodontal plan is made and explained. Tender gums after a thorough clean are normal and settle within days.

Afterwards
Eat and drink normally straight after. Gums that bled at first usually stop within days of a clean and a better routine — persistent bleeding is a reason to come back, not to brush more gently.

Questions patients usually ask.
How often should I see the hygienist?
It is set by your gums, not a rule — three, six or twelve months. Your interval is recommended at the visit.
Can I book the hygienist directly?
Ask reception when you book — they will confirm what applies and get you to the right appointment.
Will it remove my staining?
Surface stain from tea, coffee and smoking, usually yes. Discolouration inside the tooth needs whitening instead — the hygienist will tell you which yours is.
