Periodontal treatment
Assessment and treatment planning for gum disease and related periodontal concerns.

Could this treatment help you?
Gum disease is the quiet way adults lose teeth: it is painless for years while it loosens them. Periodontal treatment is the structured response — deep cleaning below the gumline, measured pockets tracked visit to visit, and a home routine rebuilt around what your gums actually need.
Care is shared between the practice’s dentists and its GDC-registered hygienists, with progress measured rather than assumed.
This may suit you if

Bleeding gums, bad breath that will not clear, gums shrinking back, or teeth that feel slightly loose — or a check-up finding of deep pockets. Smokers and diabetic patients carry higher risk and benefit most from early treatment.
What it will not do

Bone already lost to gum disease does not grow back — treatment stabilises what remains, which is why starting early matters so much. Success depends as much on your daily cleaning and smoking status as on anything done in the surgery, and that is said plainly at the start.
- Measured, tracked treatment — progress in numbers, not impressions
- Dentists and GDC-registered hygienists working together
- A home routine built for your mouth, not a leaflet
- Step 1Full gum assessmentEvery tooth’s pockets measured and recorded as the baseline.
- Step 2Deep cleaningDeposits removed below the gumline, under local anaesthetic where needed.
- Step 3Review and re-measureThe pockets are measured again — the numbers show what worked.
- Step 4MaintenanceA recall interval that matches your risk, not a default.
Afterwards
Gums can be tender and teeth briefly sensitive after deep cleaning; both settle. The daily interdental cleaning you are shown is the treatment continuing at home — without it, the surgery work cannot hold.
Questions patients usually ask.
Can gum disease be cured?
It can be stabilised and kept stable — which keeps teeth for decades — but lost bone does not return and maintenance is ongoing. That honesty is the foundation of a plan that actually works.
How much does periodontal treatment cost?
It depends on how many areas need deep cleaning and over how many visits — set out in writing after the full assessment.
My gums bleed but nothing hurts — is that really urgent?
Bleeding is the early warning, and the painless years are when treatment works best. By the time gum disease hurts or teeth loosen, the options are fewer.
